  1. thanks edward. great list.

  2. wow…!!! It was a diary for me to look at that list and think back to those times… Thelma and Lousie, Paris is Burning… It just conjured up memories of talking to friends, who I was hanging out with during that time, what my issues were, what my art life was like, my love life, not to mention where I was literally and figuratively. Such a great way to remember the years.

    thank you love!

  3. Edward this is an incredible amount of work, done with love and thoughtfulness, and what a gift to us all; thank you so much! It really does take one back to each of those years and where we were, who we were with, and what was going on in our lives. Thanks again!

  4. deeply satisfying list edward, thought provoking and inspiring. thanks for sharing.
    (ahem, not enough documentaries)
    with hugs,
    gary

  5. Edward,

What a beautiful gift. Can’t wait to get home to thoroughly explore your thoughtful, varied and provocative selections of the last 21 years. In a quick peak I saw on your list Marwencol, I Am Love, Breaking the Waves and Before Night Falls, just naming four of your vast selection. No wonder you’ve been my favorite film critic throughout these years. I look forward to fully exploring your list.

    Much love, Jeanne

  6. Hello Mr. Guthmann ! I wanted to convey my appreciation for your role in one of my favorite movies of all time – “Whatever Happened To Susan Jane?” I first came across the film when I was 23, back in 1987, in a neighborhood video store while I was living in Key West, FL. The owner of the video store sold me the copy because I would come in every week and rent it. Through the years, I would look online for any information about the film – it was’t even listed on IMDB, until fairly recently. I’m now 51, a former resident of San Francisco and just recently bought the re-mastered DVD, although I still have the original VHS. It’s appeal is incredibly strong – and everyone who watches it loves it.

    Best,

    Tre Gibbs, Los Angeles, CA

  7. Gotta love the Internet: I started at a Washington Post article about a pedophile gymnast, which for some reason linked to an article about why Oliver Sacks was celibate most of his life, which mentioned a comment that referred to Oliver Sacks liking Thom Gunn, which led me to Google Thom Gunn, which led to your wonderful article about Thom Gunn, which led me to what will mow be my go-to list next time my husband and I are sitting on the sofa wondering what to pull up on Netflix. I guess six degrees of separation doesn’t just apply to people; it now applies to information. (Wonderful article on Thom Gunn, by the way. And I’ll try to check out your Cameroun doc.)
